Iran’s Alizadeh, 5 Rivals Recite Quran on Last Night of Malaysia Int’l Quran Contest

KUALA LUMPUR (IQNA) – Iran’s Hamed Alizadeh was among the six Qaris whose turn for reciting the Quran at Malaysia’s 59th international Quran competition came on Friday.

Friday was the last night of the contest, which had kicked off in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

Alizadeh recited verse 45 of Surah Anfal in about 10 minutes.

The other Qaris of the last night were from Singapore, South Africa, Britain, Malaysia, and Iraq.

Alizadeh had previously said his main rivals in the race for the top prize were the Malaysian and British Qaris.

The competition was held in the two categories of recitation and memorization.

Fifteen Quran experts from different countries, including Malaysia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Indonesia formed the panel of judges.

A total of 38 Qaris and 30 memorizers of the Quran from different Muslim and non-Muslim countries competed in the Quranic event.

Winners of the top three ranks in the two categories, both in the men’s and women’s sections, will receive cash prizes of 10000 to 70,000 ringgits in the closing ceremony.

The motto of this year’s competition was "Islamic Brotherhood Based on Unity of Islamic Ummah”.

The international Quran contest is annually organized by the Malaysia government with the aim of promoting the culture of Quran recitation and fostering the teachings of the Holy Book.
