Nat’l Quran Competition Preliminaries Kick Off in Brunei

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The first preliminary rounds for the 1439H/2018 national Quran memorization and understanding competition in Brunei were held Monday at the Center of Quran Studies and Dissemination (MABIMS) in Jalan Ong Sum Ping.

There are five categories being contested in the preliminaries, which will run until February 1.

Category ‘A’, open to participants aged 11 years and below, involved the memorisation of selected chapters from Quran; the compilation of chapters from Surah Adh-Dhuhaa to Surah An-Naas; and a comprehension of Surah Al-Muthafifiin, Surah Al-Insyiqaaq and Surah At-Tin.

In Category ‘B’, open to students aged 17 years and below, the participants were required to memorise selected chapters such as Surah Luqman, Surah As-Sajdah, Surah Yaasiin, Surah Ar-Rahmaan, Surah Al-Waqi’ah, Surah Al-Mulk and Surah Al-Insaan; and a comprehension of Surah Al-Kahfi and Surah Luqman.

This category was not open to students from the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) and those from abroad.

Category ‘C’ was open to all ages and those who had never sat for the Brunei Darussalam Tasmie’ Al-Quran Memorisation Allowance Test in Category 10, 20 and 30 Juzuks in 2010.

The participants were required to memorise Juzuks 1 to 3 from Al-Quran, in addition to giving an interpretation of Juzuk 2. Participants of Category ‘D’ were required to memorise 15 Juzuks of Al-Quran from Juzuks 1 to 15, and give an interpretation of Juzuk 12.

This category was open to participants of all ages who had never sat for the Brunei Darussalam Tasmie’ Al-Quran Memorisation Allowance Test in Category 30 Juzuks.

Category ‘E’ was also open to all ages, where the participants were required to memorise all 30 Juzuks of Al-Quran, and give an interpretation of Juzuk 23.

A total of 309 participants are competing in the preliminaries, with 125 in Category ‘A’, 62 in Category ‘B’, 81 in Category ‘C’, 28 in Category ‘D’ and 13 in Category ‘E’.

Twelve participants will be selected from each category to compete in the semi-final rounds.

The competition is an annual project from the Ministry of Religious Affairs alongside its activities for the National Nuzul Al-Quran celebrations.
