TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian Quran reciters and Tawasheeh (religious songs) groups willing to join the Noor Convoy on Arbaeen pilgrimage can sign up for the pilgrimage.

Iran’s Union of Quran and Etrat Institutes has designated the website etghan.ir for the registration.

Those willing to join the convoy have until September 22 to register their name.

The applicants need to be top Qaris at the national or provincial level, according to the union.

The names of those selected to join the convoy will be announced in late September.

Members of the convoy hold Quranic programs for Arbaeen pilgrims.

They recite Adhan (call to prayers), perform Tawasheeh (religious songs) and recite verses from the Holy Quran in Moukebs (resting places with special facilities and services for pilgrims) on the path of the pilgrims.

Arbaeen comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world took part in the mourning ceremonies in the Iraqi holy city marking Arbaeen.

Arbaeen falls on Tuesday, October 30, this year.
