TEHRAN (IQNA) – The representative of Hamas envoy in Iran Khaled al-Ghadoumi said the main challenge for Palestine today is attempts by some Arab states to normalize ties with the Zionist regime.

Ghadoumi made the remark in a forum in Tehran on Wednesday, adding, however, that such attempts will get nowhere.

The forum, titled “Al-Aqsa Mosque in Divine Destiny” was held on the anniversary of the 1969 al-Aqsa Mosque fire set by the Zionists.

The day has been named at Iran’s suggestion by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as the World Mosque Day in remembrance of the event.

Ghadoumi said Al-Aqsa has always been an inspiration for the Palestinians’ uprisings against the Zionist occupation.

He said 50 years after the arson attack on the mosque, the Zionist regime’s moves to destroy Quds and Judaize the city continues, and so does the Palestinians’ struggle against the occupation.

He underlined that Palestinians should resist moves against Quds and al-Aqsa by mobilizing public opinion against them and encouraging presence at al-Aqsa as well as continuing the struggle against the occupiers.

On 21 August, 1969, an extremist Australian Christian, Dennis Michael Rohan, attempted to set fire to Al-Aqsa Mosque; his action had the apparent blessing of the Israeli occupation forces. Now 50 years later, the Noble Sanctuary of Al-Aqsa remains under as great a threat as ever.
