According to El-Massa newspaper, Yusuf Bilmahdi said that Quranic courses have been offered to about one million students.
He stressed that the Algerian government seeks to develop Quran education in the country.
The Quranic teachings are provided along with official education at schools and universities in Algeria, he said.
The minister made the remarks in a ceremony held to inaugurate a Quran school in Dararia suburb of Algiers earlier this week. The school will host some 450 students.
Another Quran school was also opened by the minister in the suburb for 500 students.
The Awqaf minister also opened Salman Farsi Mosque and its Quran teaching center in Bab Ezzouar region in Dar Elbeida suburb of Algiers.
