TEHRAN (IQNA) – Jesus Christ (AS) is one of the special messengers of God who managed, with his good and beautiful conduct and behavior, to attract many followers and invite many people to worshiping God.

Mary (SA) and Jesus (AS)

Jesus (AS) is the fourth special messenger of God who brought a religion and had a book. The name of the divine book he brought is the Bible.

His mother, Mary (SA), is said to be a descendant of Jacob (AS) and so Jesus (AS) is considered to be among Bani Isra’il prophets.

He was born in the Palestinian city of Beit Lahm (Bethlehem).

Some say Issa (Jesus) is a Hebrew word meaning savior. Another name for Jesus is Masih (Christ), which is also a Hebrew word meaning blessed.

Jesus was the last prophet of God before Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and he informed people about the coming of another messenger of God named Ahmad (another for Muhammad (PBUH)).

The birth of Prophet Jesus (AS) was a miracle. He was born to a mother who was a virgin. As God wanted, Mary (SA), conceived Jesus (AS) without marrying anyone and without ever having relationship with any man. God informed her that she would soon give birth to a child who will have miracles. God confirms him with the Holy Spirit, gives him the Book, teaches him wisdom and sends him to Bani Isra’il as a prophet.

The Quran likens the birth of Jesus to that of Adam (AS) as both were born without fathers.

That is why Christians call Jesus son of God. However, Muslims believe that Jesus (AS) was a special servant of God and a messenger of God who had a miraculous birth.

Jews, meanwhile, say Jesus (AS) is not their promised savior.

As said before, God said that Jesus will have special miracles. The miracles of Jesus (AS) can be divided into two groups: those before prophethood and those after prophethood.

His main miracles before prophethood included his birth and also his speaking in cradle to prove the purity of himself and his mother.

“So she pointed to him (Prophet Jesus). But they replied: ‘How can we speak with a baby in the cradle?’ He (the baby) said: ‘I am the worshiper of Allah. Allah has given me the Book and made me a Prophet. He made me to be blessed wherever I am, and He has charged me with prayer and charity for as long as I shall live. (He has made me) kind to my mother; He has not made me arrogant, unprosperous. Peace be upon me on the day I was born, and on the day I die; and on the day when I shall be raised up alive.’” (Verses 29-33 of Surah Maryam)
