Al-Azhar Describes Calls for Holding up Qurans as Sedition

Egypt’s al-Azhar Islamic Center said calls for carrying copies of the Quran in a planned demonstration is Fitna (sedition).

According to Akhbarak website, in a statement issued on Friday, al-Azhar said the call reminds one of the Fitna of Siffin, which harmed the Muslim Ummah.
It underlined that Fitnas only serve the interests of the enemies of Islam.
Egypt’s Salafist Front has called for nationwide demonstrations on 28 November against government policies.
The front has called on protesters to hold up the Quranduring the demonstrations.
Al-Azhar underlined that such a move (carrying Quran in the protests) is deceiving Muslims in the name of religion.
“They are a call for chaos and for [disrespecting] the Quran,” Al-Azhar’s statement added.
