TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Canadian Muslim, Khalil Jafar, has donated a valuable and ancient collection of 100 envelopes and stamps, along with a catalog of Canadian stamps, to the treasury of stamps and coins of the Central Museum of Imam Reza shrine.

The stamps collection dates back to the years between 1815 and 2023.

Jafar, who is originally from Kenya, decided to make this donation when he visited Mashhad and became acquainted with the Central Museum of Imam Reza shrine 15 years ago.

He said he was impressed by the museum's preservation and display of various data-x-items with the names of their donors. He also encouraged other collectors around the world to contribute their precious collections to the museum.

“Museums are usually plundered during wars and instabilities; this is not right about Imam Reza shrine’s museum at all, however. Moreover, all data-x-items are put into public display with the name of their presenter,” he said.

Hossein Yazdinejad, the head of the treasury of stamps and coins of the museum, said that the collection included sealed envelopes from England, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, the island of Jersey in England, and some other African countries.

The envelopes had images of endangered wildlife, butterflies, local clothes, and traditional objects.

He also said that the oldest envelope in the collection came from Zanzibar, which is now part of Tanzania. The envelope was used as a postal item in 1937 and is one of the rarest envelopes among collectors.
