Muslims Feed Lancashire Needy
“It’s wonderful to see the youth of today helping those less fortunate within the community,” community spokesman Farouk Hussain told the Clitheroe Advertiser & Times on Saturday, December 21.
“It certainly helps the children and their families realize and appreciate how lucky they are to have regular warm food and a bed to sleep in each night.”
Working in collaboration with Clitheroe Foodbank, members of the Muslim community have raced time to collect various data-x-items of non-perishable foods.
The efforts were basically directed at brighten up Christmas for their city’s less fortunate people.
Following two-month work, they managed to collect a total some 800 kg of food, enough to provide 1,005 meals.
These data-x-items will be distributed to needy local individuals in the Ribble Valley via Clitheroe Foodbank.
“Hopefully it will foster a spirit of community involvement for these children and families, encouraging them all to serve the local and wider community in a tolerant, respectful and sympathetic manner,” Hussain added.
The Muslim efforts were applauded by Clitheroe Foodbank Manager Ruth Haldane.
“We want to thank the Clitheroe Muslim community for collecting and donating this food to foodbank,” she said.
“It will make a real difference to those in crisis in the Ribble Valley.”
Britain is home to a sizable Muslim minority of nearly 2.7 million.
Christmas is the main festival on the Christian calendar. Its celebrations reach its peak at 12:00 PM on December 24 of every year.
Muslims believe in Jesus as one of the great Prophets of God and that he is the son of Mary but not the Son of God. He was conceived and born miraculously.
In the Noble Qur’an, Jesus is called "Isa". He is also known as Al-Masih (the Christ) and Ibn Maryam (Son of Mary).
Last December, Muslim campaign in Blackburn town had collected tones of food for the needy during this Christmas where more than 20,000 food data-x-items were collected by the drive.
