Researchers Discover ‘Oldest’ Copy of the Quran in Germany

Researchers at the University of Tübingen in Germany announced the discovery of a copy of the Holy Quran dating back to 40 Hijri (about 622 AD) according to the German website Deutsche Welle.

The manuscript made its way to the library of the University in 1864 when the institution had purchased part of the private collection of books of the Prussian consul Johann Gottfried Fitz Stein.
According to the findings of the researchers, the copy was written 20-40 years after the migration of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD
After examining of samples of the manuscript, as part of a scientific research project that seeks to trace the history of the writing of the Quran, the researchers found that the copy dates back to the early 7th century.
According to the university spokesperson, the copy is written in Kufic script, one of the oldest scripts in the Arabic language.
