Seminar at Kerala University to Discuss Quran Translation

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Department of Linguistics, University of Kerala, India will organize an international seminar on translation and interpretation of the Holy Quran later this month.

According to diae.net website, the university’s department of Arabic, which was established in 2002, will hold the event on May 23-25.
The three-day seminar seeks to assess the present status of the translation and interpretation of the Holy Quran.
Some of the themes of the Seminar include:
- Quran Text and contents
- Philosophy and theoretical aspects of Quranic traditions
- History and development of Tafseer and Major traditions in Quran Interpretation
- Contemporary explanation and modern epistemology on Quran
- Reference and explanation on different subjects
- Translations, Interpretations, and Influence of various Schools of Thought in Translating the
Quran
- Peculiarities of Source Language (Arabic) and Target Languages vis-a-vis the issues and
challenges of Quranic translation
- Theories of Translation and their relevance to Quran translation (e.g., philological,
communicative, socio-semiotics, hermeneutics)
-  Quranic Arabic and the question of untranslatable in the Quran
- Translation and Readers; Utilization of the Quran’s Translations in Society (to what extent
do people rely on translations? Are they used for educational purposes in institutions, or only
for personal reading?)
- Subjectivity, objectivity and other factors in translating the Quran
- Quranic translations & their impact on Islamic Legal Interpretations
