Qassemi expressed condolences to the bereaved families of victims and underlined the need for the international community to fulfil its duty of combatting the spread of terrorism and barbaric actions of Takfiri groups.

He also noted that the attacks came following the successive failures of Takfiri terrorists in carrying out their evil agenda in Iraq.

The spokesman further reiterated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s resolve to stand by the Iraqi government and nation in the fight against terrorism.

On Sunday, a suicide bomber set off his explosives at a checkpoint in the south of the city of Tikrit, Salahuddin’s province.

Some reports said the attacker had been riding a bomb-laced ambulance during the morning rush hour and that Iraqi forces had imposed a curfew in the area after the incident.

Meanwhile, another car bomb went off at a car park for Shia pilgrims visiting al-Askari Mosque in the vicinity of a hospital in the province’s city of Samarra, located some 50 kilometers south of Tikrit.
