TEHRAN (IQNA) – Bahrain’s top Shia cleric Sheikh Isa Qassem condemned the US’ so-called peace plan for the Middle East as a malicious and shameful plot, saying it has targeted the entire Muslim Ummah.

In a statement released on Saturday, Sheikh Qassem described the so-called deal of the century as a shameful, disgraceful and dangerous deal designed by the ‘axis of evil’ that targets the identity and existence of the Muslim Ummah.

He said it is more shameful and disgraceful that some governments, institutions and individuals in the Muslim world are accomplices in the plot.

The senior cleric underlined that the Muslim Ummah has the responsibility to thwart this scheme.

If all Muslim nations and groups unite on the path of God and struggle on this path, they would be victorious and defeat the will of the devil, Sheikh Qassem went on to say.

Washington had announced the plan -- a brainchild of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner and other key pro-Israeli figures -- years ago, but had withheld the details.

Trump announced the general provisions of the scheme, which he has controversially dubbed “the Deal of the Century,” on Tuesday, with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his side. Palestinian sides were conspicuous by their absence at the ceremony given their vociferous disagreement to the plot.
