TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held in the Turkish capital of Ankara to honor and grant certificates to a number of citizens who have learned the Quran by heart.

Ali Erbas

Ali Erbas, the president of Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), officiated the ceremony, the New Turk Post reported.

In his address, Erbas referred to a Hadith narrated from the Holy Prophet (PBUH), saying the best of people are those who learn the Quran and teach it to others.

He underlined that God preserves and protects the Quran until the Day of Judgment.

Erbas added that the greatest title that can be given to a Muslim is the title of Quran memorizer.

He noted that there are more than 170,000 people in Turkey who have committed the Quran to memory.

The official further praised the Quran memorizers attending the ceremony for their great achievement and gave them as well as their teachers certificates of honor.

In Turkey, Diyanet is responsible for supervising religious and Quranic activities.
