TEHRAN (IQNA) – Lebanese scholar and secretary general of the Union of Resistance Scholars slammed Saudi authorities for appointing a prod-Israeli preacher as the prayer leader of the Arafah Day Prayers during Hajj.

Sheikh Maher Hamoud

Sheikh Maher Hamoud said Saudi Arabia has used the annual Hajj as a gateway for normalizing ties with the Zionist regime, Al-Ahed News reported.

He said the Saudi authorities appointed Mohammad al-Issa as the prayer leader and preacher of Namira Mosque on the Day of Arafah, which is among the pillars of Hajj.

This is while al-Issa, who has also been appointed as the secretary general of the Muslim World League, has committed unethical actions that run counter to the basic principles of Islam, Sheikh Hamoud stated.

He added that al-Issa is someone who has called Zionists his brother and described Palestinian fighters and defenders of Al-Aqsa Mosque as terrorists.

Sheikh Hamoud deplored the Saudi authorities’ silence on the Muslim world scholars’ anger at the appointment of al-Issa.

Al-Issa in 2020 visited the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz in Poland along with a Jewish group, days before the Tel Aviv regime was going to commemorate the Holocaust in the occupied Jerusalem al-Quds.

Saudi Arabia has trying to bring out in the open its years-long clandestine relations with the Israeli regime.
