Kazakhstan Mufti Lauds Iran’s Role in Promoting Interfaith Dialogue

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Grand Mufti of Kazakhstan Sheikh Nauryzbay Kazhy Taganuly commended Iran’s strategic role in the promotion of dialogue among faiths and religions.

Speaking in a meeting with an Iranian delegation in Nur-Sultan, Sheikh Taganuly also said that the people of the Central Asian country have special respect for the people of Iran.

The Iranian delegation, led by Head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour, has traveled to Kazakhstan to attend the 7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.

He added that a recent visit by Kazakhstan’s president to Iran will turn into a turning point in the ties between the two nations.

At the meeting, Hojat-ol-Islam Imanipour underlined the need for developing joint cooperation between Iran and Kazakhstan in cultural and religious fields.

Also, another member of the delegation, Head of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Shahriari, invited Sheikh Taganuly to attend in the upcoming International Islamic Unity Conference in Iran.

The VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions kicked off in the city of Nur-Sultan on September 13 and will conclude today.

More than 140 religious, cultural and other figures from 60 countries are attending the international event.

They include Pope Francis, the Sheikh of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, president of Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs, and Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims’ Board.

The congress is held in the Kazakh city every three years.
