TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iranian veteran Quran activist said being good in Sawt (melodious voice) and Lahn (rhythm) is important for those taking part in the recitation category of Malaysia’s international Quran competition.

Iranian veteran Quran activist Abdol Rasoul Abaei

Speaking to IQNA, Abdol Rasoul Abaei said the qari that is sent to Malaysia should be accompanied by a guide who would provide instructions and guidance on Sawt and Lahn.

The guide should also support the Quran reciter in terms of psychological issues to prepare him for the contest, he added.

In Malaysia’s competition, special attention is given to Lahn and also some attention to Sawt, but Waqf and Ibtida (pause and start) are not considered to be important, the Quran master said.

Abaei also underlined the importance of taking good rest and having good and proper meals before the competition, being in high spirits and having Tawakkul (putting one’s trust in God) for success in the Quranic event.

He further noted that upon arriving in Kuala Lumpur, the contenders are given a copy of the regulations of the competition, stressing that it can be helpful to read the regulations carefully.

He wished success for the Iranian contender in the upcoming international competition.

Abaei himself served as a guide for Iran’s representatives in three previous editions of Malaysia’s international Quran competition and in all three editions helped them win the top title.

This year, Iranian qari Masoud Nouri is among those making it to the final round in the recitation category of the contest.

He attended the preliminary stage of the competition via videoconference back in July, reciting verses from Surah Al-An’am of the Holy Quran, and the organizing committee confirmed his qualification to compete in the finals.

The Quranic Affairs Center of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization has selected Nosratollah Hosseini, a prominent Quran master, reciter, and teacher to accompany the country’s representative in the prestigious Quranic event as a guide.

The 62nd edition of Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA) was held online in the preliminary stage. The finals will be organized in-person later this month.

According to officials, 41 individuals from 31 countries are set to participate in the final round, slated to be held in-person from October 19 to 24 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC).

The MTHQA is being held again after a two-year suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kuala Lumpur hosted the 61st edition in April 2019 and Iran’s representative Hadi Movahed Amin finished fourth after qaris from Malaysia, Algeria, and Morocco. More than 100 qaris and memorizers from 71 countries had participated in the previous edition.
