100 Qaris Make It to Finals of Katara Quran Competition in Qatar

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Qatar’s Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) said 100 qaris have so far made it to the final round of the 6th Katara Prize for Quran Recitation.

The competition is organized in the Persian Gulf Arab country annually under the supervision of the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry.

The slogan of this year’s edition is “Adorn the Quran with your voices”, according to marsalqatar.qa website.

Registration for the contest began on September 1, 2022, and concluded on November 30.

The preliminary round was held virtually, with the contenders from 67 countries sending their recorded recitations to the organizing committee via the cyber space.

So far, 100 qaris from 13 Arab and 18 non-Arab countries have qualified for the final stage, the foundation noted.

Morocco has the largest number of qaris in the finals, with 20 contenders, followed by Syria, Iraq, Egypt and Sudan.

The competitions in this edition will be aired in 26 episodes n Qatar’s TV during the holy month of Ramadan (April).

Winners of the top three titles will receive 500,000, 300,000 and 100,000 Qatari riyals respectively.   

According to the organizers, the Katara Prize for Quran Recitation aims to encourage distinguished talents in reciting the Holy Quran; discover, support and introduce talented people to the world; honor distinguished and creative reciters; motivate young generations to adhere to their religion, and realize their duties towards their Islamic faith.
