STOCKHOLM (IQNA) – A man who was protesting against an extremist's Quran burning in front of the Stockholm Mosque was reportedly confronted by plainclothes police.

Kais Tunisia, a Muslim, was expressing his anger at an extremist who desecrated the Muslim holy book when he was approached by police.

Tunisia said he was exercising his freedom of expression, but the police warned him not to raise his voice. He added that he was surprised by the police's attitude and condemned their reaction.

"They brought the provocateur in front of our mosque, and they gave him a megaphone. We heard his insults … When we reacted to this, we met with the reaction of the police. I condemn this, too," he told Anadolu Agency on Thursday.

The serial Quran blasphemer identified as Salwan Momika left the scene in an armoured police vehicle, escorted by about 20 police vehicles and 100 police officers.

This was not the first time that Momika had targeted the Quran in Stockholm. He had carried out similar acts in the past few weeks, with the help of another Iraqi-origin extremist, Salwan Najem.

The Quran-burning incidents have sparked outrage among Muslim nations and the European Union, which Sweden is a member of. They have denounced the attacks on the sanctity of the Quran as Islamophobic and provocative.
