Winners of Nat’l Quran Competition Honored in Mali

IQNA – The closing ceremony of the national Quran competition in the African country of Mali was held earlier this week.

The competition was organized in January by the country’s Association of Quran Memorization Centers with support for the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, al-Hadath website reported.

Some 100 contenders competed in two separate sections for men and women in the categories of memorization of the entire Quran together with interpretation of the verses, memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of half of Quran and memorization of one-fourths of the Quran.

It was organized with the aim of serving the book of God, promoting the memorization and interpretation of the Quran and encouraging memorizers to enhance this Quranic skills.

The closing ceremony, where the winners were named and awarded, was held on Monday, February 12.

The Saudi envoy and a number of senior religious, political and social figures of Mali attended the event.

It began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran followed by a speech by Mali’s religious affairs minister, Mohammed Omar.

He thanked the organizers of the contest and said such programs promote Quranic activities and serve the Holy Book.

The top contenders in the men and women sections were then awarded prizes and certificates of honor.
