LONDON (IQNA) – A mosque in Bristol opened a new prayer space exclusively for women as community celebrated Eid al-Adha.

The "Sister's Space" at Easton Jamia Mosque in Bristol is a response to the demand from women who wanted a dedicated area to worship.

Abdul Malik, chair of Easton Jamia Mosque, said: "There was a lot of demand that we need to open up a space that was dedicated to the sisters and children.

"There are a lot of people who want to use the mosque who maybe don't want to come to the men's section."

"But we feel that as a mosque, if there is the demand, of course we should accommodate that," he said.

He added that the Eid Fest was an opportunity to showcase the mosque and its community spirit.

"I think on St Marks Road we've always been a community that comes together, where diversity is celebrated.

"Today is about bringing the Muslim community together but it's also about showing off the mosque and making sure everyone knows that this space is available to them."

Located in the heart of Bristol, Easton Jamia Masjid is one of the largest mosques in the south west of England. Since its establishment in 1983, the masjid has undergone its most extensive refurbishment and extension project to date.
