TEHRAN (IQNA) – Jesus (AS) was among the Ulul Azm (five greatest) prophets of God and the Holy Quran pays special attention to his character.

Holy Quran

The Quran highlights the miracles of Jesus (AS), which were meant to help people believe.

Prophet Jesus (AS) had many miracles that were the signs of his prophethood and his connection to God so that people would be convinced that he was indeed a prophet of God.

The first miracle of Jesus was his birth. According to the Quran, Mary (SA) conceived him without having gotten married or having any relationships with a man. According to the Quran, his birth in this way was a sign for people and a mercy from God. “He said, ‘This is true but your Lord says, ‘It is very easy for Me. We have decided to give you a son as evidence (of Our existence) for human beings and a mercy from Us. This is a decree already ordained.’” (Verse 21 of Surah Maryam)

The second miracle of Jesus was talking in cradle. “He (the baby) said: ‘I am the worshiper of God. God has given me the Book and made me a Prophet.’” (Verse 30 of Surah Maryam)

He had also miracles during his prophetic mission. For example, Verse 49 of Surah Al Imran points to four of his miracles, namely making a real bird out of clay, healing a blind man who had been born blind, bringing the dead back to life, and telling people about what was hidden: “He will be a Messenger of God to the Israelites to whom he will say, "I have brought you a miracle from your Lord. I can create for you something from clay in the form of a bird. When I blow into it, it will become a real bird, by the permission of God. I can heal the blind and the lepers and bring the dead back to life, by the permission of God. I can tell you about what you eat and what you store in your homes. This is a miracle for you if you want to have faith.”

Another miracle of Jesus was asking God to send down food from heaven: “When the disciples said: ‘O (Prophet) Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send down to us a table from heaven?’” (Verse 112 of Surah Al-Ma’idah)

“God said, ‘I am sending it to you, but if anyone of you turns back to disbelief, I will make him suffer a torment that no one has ever suffered.’” (Verse 115 of Surah Al-Ma’idah)
